I've recently become certified in Lomi Lomi massage, and am thrilled to finally be sharing some of its wonders. If you've never received a Lomi massage, you can learn about it here:
The word lomi lomi is Hawaiian for 'massage', it can also translate 'to work in and out' or 'to weave'. This type of massage uses breathwork, or 'Ha', and is very intention based. The goal is to bridge a connection between Heaven and Earth. This is done by using long, fluid strokes of the practitioner's forearm, working from the head (Heaven) to the feet (Earth). Lomi integrates shamanic movement, called Ki, or flying, to balance the left and right sides of the body.
There are many different styles of this work, but I practice Sacred Lomi which embodies seven Shamanic Principles:
IKE * Perception
This is a reminder that by shifting our perception, we can change our experience of the world.
Kala * Limitless
When we expand our mind, it allows us to become open and receptive to new pathways, and change what is possible.
Makia * Focus
This is the Law of Attraction. According to Sacred Lomi, "When you focus your physical, mental and emotional attention, not only does all of your energy channel into what you are focusing on, but you will also attract energy from the world around you, which increases the effect of whatever you are focusing on."
Manawa * Presence
"This is the moment where you plant seeds for the future; this moment is where you can harvest crops of the past. Essentially, now is the moment of power." -Sacred Lomi
Aloha * Love
Like Namaste, aloha honors the divinity in yourself and others.
Mana * Life force
All the power for transformation and evolution comes from within, from your mana.
Pono * Alignment
This principle teaches that you are most effective when you are in alignment with your truth.
